How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming the Education Field?

Share

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the education field through multiple ways such as curriculum analysis, learning, and assessment. Through proper analysis, the adoption of AI can aid in developing curriculum maps, and help students in their reviews as well automating time-consuming tasks. AI is providing students with instant, personalized feedback as they complete assignments. This can be achieved by assigning the grading to an AI model which can receive the work as an input and output a grade along with personalized feedback. AI-based learning improvements can be expanded to provide students with modern pathways in which they require less supervision and more personalized learning. Therefore, AI-based personalized and adaptive feedback models may provide additional insight for students to fill their knowledge gaps more effectively.

Role of Virtual Reality (VR) in Modern Education

The VR-based education system can be used anywhere and anytime with an internet connection.  It has great potential to take learning beyond the traditional classroom experience. VR has multiple advantages in the modern education system such as enhanced student engagement, improved knowledge retention, and experiential learning. This simulation-based technology has so much potential to revolutionize our education system according to the 21st century’s demands. It has made it possible for students to think and experience their learning in more immersive and engaging ways than traditional textbook learning. VR has developed the new concept of “digitalized classroom sessions”, where both students and teachers can gain classroom insights by recreating and recording real classroom sessions. If a student misses a class, he/she can use VR recordings to learn the missed lesson as real-time.

In medical education, AI can be used through the use of virtual patients (VP) and virtual reality (VR). This facilitates the student to practice a wide range of tasks over and over again, without putting any patients at risk or at the risk of damaging instruments. The use of VPs and VR for medical education has been widely accepted.

AI-based Chatbots and Modern Education System

Chatbots, also known as virtual assistants or virtual humans, are AI-based programs that are designed to simulate human conversation via text or speech. In the modern education system, chatbots can be used for two basic high-level functions “understanding” and “answering”. No matter the type of chatbot, these all are built for a similar purpose i.e. to understand regular human language inputs and then provide relevant answers. Chatbots are everywhere and we are expecting to see a lot of them for the modern education industry as educational assistance, virtual teachers, and more.

Expanding the Reach of Education

Learning how to understand and use AI models in practice will create a net benefit to society as teachers are able to work faster and with more time to focus on their research instead of manual lesson planning or checking their students’ homework.

Transforming the curriculum with AI will lead to the ability of the education system to increase its reach. As AI-based evaluation system and virtual environments improve, students won’t be held back by the size of the class, the number of available teachers, or even world-class facilities. Bettering the learning experience will allow more students to learn the basics with more time using fewer resources, thus effectively lowering the cost of education over time.

The Learning Environment beyond the Classroom

As more and more technologies, not just AI, are adopted into the education field, it is crucial for both students and teachers to foster an effective culture of learning at every level. This would enable both students and the current workforce to reframe their knowledge within an increasingly technology-driven world. In short, the fast growth of AI in the education field around the globe is a glimpse of a shining future, where artificial intelligence-driven tools are likely to define the new ways of our education system. Although no one can predict exactly how AI will transform the education in future; however, we can predict that the development of the future education system will be based on a partnership among professors, machines, and students. Thus, educationists need to be ready for their new roles with transformation in the traditional education system.
